Tools - H5P.

A series of short video explainers demonstrating how I use H5P to create learning experiences.

H5P Column.

Watch the video on the right to see how I used H5P to create a column style lesson with embedded activities like a collage, ‘mark the words’ text, and a multiple choice quiz question.

H5P Interactive Video.

In this interaction, I created an interactive video to test learners’ listening skills for details and main ideas. The video pauses automatically when a question appears and learners can answer questions and receive immediate feedback. A summary task and record of their score completes the activity.

H5P Interactive Book.

I use the interactive book option inside H5P fairly often. It looks like a slideshow but affords you a lot of interesting interactions and except for its titles, I think it looks nice, too. It’s a great tool for smoothly incorporating content and other types of H5P interactions in the same activity. I also like it for chunking information and reducing learners’ cognitive load. Admittedly, mine could have used more images.

H5P Hot Spots.

In this interaction, I created a hot spot activity to demonstrate text organization. The hot spots can be placed anywhere on an image and can add additional information for learners about specific features of the image. In this case, I designed the hot spots to provide information about features of a text which meant I took a screen shot of the text and used it as an image.

H5P Branching Narrative.

This is all about learner choice. The branching narrative activity in H5P allows you to create multiple paths through the same lesson. much like a ‘choose your own adventure’ game. It can be finicky to use and require a lot of effort to produce a meaningful learning experience where each possible path is of equal educational/experiential value to any other.
